If you try this drink, let me know how you like it. Subtle bourbon flavor The mint flavor was pretty subtle as well, but we could definitely taste it at the finish. Stick pineapple and cherries on a toothpick and insert into glass. Pour chilled syrup into serving glass and then add cold water (3 parts syrup to 5 parts water) and stir. Let cool and then place in fridge to chill. Heat to a rolling boil until sugar dissolves. Garnish with: fresh mint leaves, pineapple chunks and maraschino cherries Pour 3 cups club soda into a medium-sized pot. I should have gotten one years ago! Everyone has been talking about Mint Julep’s and the Kentucky Derby lately (which, is totally on my bucket list) and I thought since we have a Disney trip coming up… I would do a copy cat version of Disney’s mint julep drink! Now, of course this drink is non-alcoholic, so it’d be a fun one to share with the kids to celebrate the Kentucky Derby at home… AND, it is actually a real drink that they serve up at Disneyland (see HERE) at the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square. Mint Juleps are good for sipping but also pair nicely with Southern appetizers.Before garnishing with the mint sprig, gently slap it with your hands to release the aromatic oils of the mint.Though it is sweetened and flavored, the whiskey is primarily what you will taste. You can make your julep as you normally would, lightly muddling strawberries with your simple syrup and mint before adding bourbon and ice to a metal julep cup. It's best to choose one of the higher-end brands for the simple fact that bourbon is the Julep's only liquid. This should take at least 30 seconds, but the longer you do it, the better. Once you build the drink, take the time to stir it gently until the glass gets frosty. ![]() (This is a wonderful and safe stress reliever, too.) Making crushed ice without a machine is another use for your muddler: Place ice cubes in a Lewis bag (a cloth bag made specifically for this purpose) or wrap it in a towel and whack it until your cubes become finely crushed ice. ![]() The intention is to release the essential oils, not tear the leaves to bits. ![]()
